You need to submit an essay of 1,500 words via our essay contest tool on our website. We do not accept handwritten essays. All essays need to be submitted in English. You will find more information in our Application Guidelines (PDF). The essay contest starts on September 7th and end at 11:59 pm (GMT) on January 13, 2017. I already applied for the last Youth Ag-Summit in 2015 but wasn’t successful. Can I still apply for the Youth Ag-Summit in 2017? Yes, former unsuccessful applicants are invited to apply for the 2017 Youth Ag-Summit. However, successful applicants who had either been to the 2013 or 2015 YAS are not allowed to enter the contest. You are a former participant and interested in taking part as an alumni mentor? We will invite a bunch of “Alumni-Mentors” to the Youth Ag-Summit in 2017! How this will work will be announce at a later stage. More information will follow. When is the deadline for the essay contest? The essay contest will be launched on September 7, 2016 and will close on January 13, 2017, at 11:59pm (GMT). What does the winner receive? The Youth Ag-Summit is not about winning a prize. It rather serves as an international forum where young people from all over the world can exchange and discuss their ideas about the challenges in agriculture. You are invited to travel to Belgium from October 9-13, 2017 to gain valuable experience as well as an international network for the future. When will I know if I have been chosen? You will be notified in Spring 2017 via email. We will announce further details and the exact date on the YAS website and our social media channels, so stay tuned. How will Youth Ag-Summit participants be selected? Our jury will evaluate each essay individually with the help of a detailed evaluation system. Are my flight and travel costs covered? Yes, flight and transportation costs are covered by the Youth Ag-Summit organizers. I’m currently staying/based in another country. From which country should I apply? Under legal eligibility for the conference you would be applying as a participant from your home country or the country for which you are holding a valid ID/passport. What documents do I need to enter European territory? You need a passport by January 13, 2017. If you already have a passport, please make sure that it is valid 6 months from October, 2015. Visa will be organized individually with the help of the caretaker in your country. What if I’m not able to get my passport by the end of the application date? Participant is solely responsible for obtaining any and all necessary travel documents to travel to and from his or her home country. Should you not hold a passport when applying to the YAS, use any other document number in the application field. However, kindly be aware that you need to acquire a passport should you be selected for the YAS as soon as possible. Otherwise, you will not be able to travel to the Summit. Which language skills are required? You should have fluent English skills, both in written and oral. The essay needs to be submitted in English. What if I need special medical assistance to attend? Please let us know in advance whether you require medical assistance. We will then try our best to arrange medical assistance that will take care of your specific needs at the Youth Ag-Summit.
